Bring your idea to life as a Yorkshire Foundry door knocker. We work with you to translate your reference images or concept into a cast AB2 bronze alloy piece that is built to last a lifetime. The result is a timeless knocker with honest material character that will develop a natural patina over time.
A full door knocker with starter kit
Initial design concept shared for your approval prior to casting
One set of minor design improvements after the first concept
Casting in AB2 marine grade bronze alloy using lost wax methods
Uncoated and unlacquered finish that ages naturally
Standard fixings and installation guidance
£199 for the knocker and starter kit
£100 contribution toward design time
Total shown at checkout: £299
Place your order, then email reference images and notes to hello@yorkshirefoundry.com.
We create and share an initial concept for your review.
You can request one round of minor refinements.
After written approval we cast, finish and prepare your knocker for dispatch.
All bespoke designs are made compatible with our interchangeable system as standard. If you are looking for something more unusual, please let us know early — in some cases it may not be possible, or it may involve additional cost.
Typical lead time is 4 to 8 weeks from design approval to dispatch. We will confirm a projected timeline when we receive your images.
Compatibility with our interchangeable system is built in as standard.
Requests beyond this (oversized rings, unusual backplates, or complex undercuts) may not be achievable and may require an additional charge.
Each piece is cast and finished by hand. Small variations in texture and colour are part of the process and should be expected.
AB2 bronze alloy will naturally deepen in tone over time. You can buff it if you prefer a brighter look.
The £100 design contribution is non-refundable once design work begins, even if you decide not to proceed.
The finished door knocker is made to order and not returnable unless there is a manufacturing fault.
Further or major redesign work beyond the included minor improvements may incur additional charges which we will quote before proceeding.
If scope, size or complexity changes after we start, pricing and timelines may be revised by agreement.
By ordering you confirm you have the rights to use any images or artwork you supply.
We reserve the right to decline designs that are inappropriate, offensive or that infringe third party rights or licences.
The final design may be added to the Yorkshire Foundry collection and shown in our marketing and portfolio. If you prefer discretion, please tell us before we begin.

Where are your products made? | All of our pieces are designed in Yorkshire and cast by a family-run foundry on the edge of the North York Moors. |
How are your products made? | Each design begins as a digital sculpture in CAD, then printed on a high-resolution 3D printer. This allows for exceptional detail and complex undercuts not possible with traditional mould-making. The prints are used in the lost-wax investment casting process, before every piece is finished, checked, and packed by hand. Our family-run foundry is aerospace certified, working to exacting standards; your door knocker may well have shared an oven with the impeller of a hypercar turbo unit or a component destined for a jet engine. |
What materials do you use? | We use AB2, a marine-grade bronze alloy. Bronze is primarily copper with tin, whereas brass is copper with zinc. Bronze is harder and more durable, making it ideal for fine detail and long-term use. Although technically bronze, our alloy has the warm golden colour people recognise as brass. |
Why do you use AB2? | AB2 was originally developed for ship propellers and marine fittings. It is strong, weather-resistant, and captures fine detail beautifully. It develops a natural patina over time, but can also be polished back to a bright shine. We choose it because it makes products that are built to last a lifetime while staying true to the craft. The surface evolves with use and weather, embracing a sense of beauty in change, character, and imperfection. |
Which doors can your knockers be fitted to? | Our knockers can be installed on timber, composite, or uPVC doors. All fixings are supplied along with clear instructions. |
How do I care for the finish? | No maintenance is needed. Left untreated, the surface will develop a natural patina that tells the story of its life outdoors. This slow change is part of the appeal, echoing the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi — valuing the imperfect and the timeworn. If you prefer a brighter look, the metal can be gently polished and buffed. |
Are the knockers interchangeable? | Yes. Our proprietary system allows you to start with a kit and then collect interchangeable heads. They can be swapped easily and even displayed indoors as decorative pieces. |
