FAQs
x| Where are your products made? | All of our pieces are designed in Yorkshire and cast by a family-run foundry on the edge of the North York Moors. |
| How are your products made? | Each design begins as a digital sculpture in CAD, then printed on a high-resolution 3D printer. This allows for exceptional detail and complex undercuts not possible with traditional mould-making. The prints are used in the lost-wax investment casting process, before every piece is finished, checked, and packed by hand. Our family-run foundry casts in AB2 aluminium bronze, chosen because it will not rust outdoors. That is what stands behind our 30-year guarantee. |
| What materials do you use? | We use AB2 aluminium bronze, left unlacquered. That is copper with aluminium, nickel and iron, whereas brass is copper with zinc. It is harder and more durable than brass. Although technically bronze, our alloy has the warm golden colour people recognise as brass. |
| Why do you use AB2? | AB2 aluminium bronze will not rust, and it weathers far better than brass. It is strong, weather-resistant, and holds fine detail. Your piece arrives fresh from the foundry, and a buff with a little brass polish brings the warm colour back. AB2 is why we can offer a 30-year guarantee against defects in materials or craftsmanship. The surface changes with use and weather, and that is part of its character. |
| Which doors can your knockers be fitted to? | Our knockers can be installed on timber, composite, or uPVC doors. All fixings are supplied along with clear instructions. |
| How do I care for the finish? | No maintenance is needed. It arrives fresh from the foundry, and it will not stay that colour: left alone it keeps darkening with weather and handling, until it looks as if it has always been there. If you want it bright again, a quick buff with a soft cloth and a little brass polish brings the warm colour back to life. |
| Are the knockers interchangeable? | Yes. Our proprietary system allows you to start with a kit and then collect interchangeable heads. They can be swapped easily and even displayed indoors as decorative pieces. |
Shipping & Returns
xReturns
You have 90 days from receiving your order to request a return, for any reason.
The item should be unused, in the same condition as when you received it, and in its original packaging, with proof of purchase (your order confirmation email is fine). Bespoke and commissioned pieces cannot be returned unless they arrive faulty or do not match the agreed brief. Sale items and gift cards are non-returnable, subject to your statutory rights.
To start a return, email hello@yorkshirefoundry.com with your order number. Please wait for our reply before you send anything back.
Approved refunds go back to your original payment method in full, with no restocking fee. Most clear within 10 business days, though banks can take a little longer. Return postage is on you for change-of-mind returns, and on us if the item arrived damaged or incorrect.

We are two friends, Rob and Ben, and Ben came up with a door knocker whose head you can change without touching the fixings. We design every piece ourselves, and every one is hand-cast and guaranteed for 30 years.
