Lop ears. Old soul.
The door that brings the orchard to the street. Choose this over a plain brass fitting and the front of the house gets a bit of old England.

No.3 in Foundry 26, our year of 26 new designs, and second of the farmyard trio with the Yorkshire Pig and the Dairy Cow. The Gloucestershire Old Spots is one of Britain's oldest pedigree pig breeds, the orchard pig of the Berkeley Vale, and the old story says every spot is a bruise from a windfall apple. Ours wears its ears the proper way, folded low over the eyes. The character sits in the small stuff. The drop of the ears. The set of the snout. You notice it when you step closer.

That detail only survives because of how we make it. We print the pattern in high definition, then cast it by hand in small batches using lost-wax investment casting. No seam. No shortcuts. Detail no hand tool can reach.

Cast in AB2 aluminium bronze, left unlacquered. It will not rust. It arrives bright, with the warm brass tone most people are looking for, and deepens naturally with time and touch. If you prefer it lighter, a quick polish brings it back.

Already own one of our bases? Take the Gloucestershire Old Spot head on its own and swap it on in under two minutes.

A complete set, supplied with a matching backplate and fixings. Fits standard doors. And because it's part of our interchangeable system, you can swap the head for another in seconds, no drilling, no new holes.

Backed by a 30-year guarantee. If it's not right, we'll make it right: 90 days for a full refund, no faff. Buying it as a gift? It arrives in plain, recyclable packaging ready to give. If you are up against a date, email us.

Sits well on a farmhouse door, a painted cottage door, a brick terrace, or any home with a soft spot for the old breeds. The orchard pig. Hang it where the apples can't reach.

Material. AB2 aluminium bronze, left unlacquered. It will not rust. It handles salt spray, rain, frost, and decades outdoors. The warm brassy colour deepens with age. Nothing is plated on, so nothing chips off. It weathers far better than brass. The full spec is CuAl10Ni5Fe4.

Casting. Investment cast from 3D-printed wax patterns. Whiskers, feathers and fur come out in detail no hand tool can reach. Every piece is finished and checked by hand.

Fixings. Front-screw fix to the door face. Fits composite doors, solid wood doors, and metal doors. No through-bolts, no drilling all the way through.

System. The head separates from the base. Fit the base once, swap the head as often as you like. Forty-plus heads in the range, plus a wreath holder.

What's in the box. A head, the starter kit (base plate, ring, receiver, and fixings), and a step-by-step installation guide. Everything you need for a first fit to your door.

Guarantee. 30 years.

Measurements are approximate due to the handmade nature of the casting and finishing process.

It arrives fresh from the foundry in the warm colour people call brass, and it won't stay that colour. It has a living finish: it darkens where it sits out of the rain and brightens where rain runs off it. Give it time and it looks as if it has always been on that door.

If you want it bright again, a quick buff with a soft cloth and a little brass polish brings the warm colour back to life. We do not lacquer it, because we would rather keep the character than the gloss.

Left alone, it keeps getting darker with time and touch. The finish moves. The casting carries our 30-year guarantee against defects in materials or craftsmanship.

Packaging. Recyclable cardboard and paper packaging. No plastic, no decorative pouches, no wooden boxes.

Dispatch. We try our best to dispatch on Tuesdays and Fridays, but honestly, sometimes it doesn't happen. We're a small business, all hands on deck. If your order needs to be somewhere by a particular date, please email us and let us know.

UK. Free delivery on orders of £100 and over.

International. Delivery is £14.95 to the EU, EEA, Switzerland and Jersey, and £24.95 to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Import taxes may be due on arrival. Anywhere else? Email us for a delivery quote.

Returns. Zero faff. 90 days from delivery, return for any reason, full refund. Honest heads-up: we have had three returns in five years, mostly from house sales falling through, so it may take us a minute to work out how to do it. Drop us an email first and we will get you sorted.

Fixings and instructions are in the box. Your first knocker arrives as a complete kit, ready to fit.

The backplate and receiver screw to the face of your door and stay there. The head hooks onto the backplate, and one bolt runs up through the head to lock the whole thing together.

Front-screw fix. It suits composite doors, solid wood doors and metal doors. No through-bolts, and no drilling all the way through.

To change the look later, loosen that one bolt, lift the old head away and drop a new one on. Every head we make fits the same backplate.

If anything is unclear when it arrives, email hello@yorkshirefoundry.com and we will talk you through it.

Frequently asked

Do you offer other finishes, like silver, chrome or antique brass?

We don't plate. Every head is cast and left as the metal: a warm golden tone most people call brass, which deepens as it ages. If you want a different colour, we can hand-finish a head in Cerakote, a hard-wearing ceramic coating, in almost any shade, made to order. Email us and we'll sort it.

How big is it?

Every product page lists the exact head and full-set dimensions. As a guide, a full knocker stands around 21cm tall and 9cm wide, with the depth changing a little from design to design.

Do you ship to the US or worldwide?

We ship from Yorkshire to the EU, EEA, Switzerland, Jersey, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Delivery is £14.95 to the EU, EEA, Switzerland and Jersey, and £24.95 to the others. Any import duty or tax is set by your own country and charged on arrival. Anywhere else? Email us for a delivery quote.

Is it really guaranteed for 30 years?

Yes. Every knocker is cast, not plated, and backed by our 30-year guarantee. If something isn't right, we'll put it right.
