About Us

Designed in York. Cast on the edge of the North York Moors.

Yorkshire Foundry is a small team. Two of us in York, and a family-run foundry twenty miles away. Every door knocker, handle and decoration starts as a drawing and ends as solid cast metal, shaped by the same few pairs of hands.

How it started

We started as friends, kicking ideas around. One of them, briefly, was a bamboo bike. Then Ben came up with the interchangeable door knocker: a head you can change on your door without touching the fixings. We got excited and ran with it. In 2022 we took it to Kickstarter. Within 48 hours we had hit three times our target. By the close we were at nearly five times it: £19,293 from 101 backers. The foundry has not stopped since.

The business

The North York Moors, where Yorkshire Foundry castings are made

The foundry

Our castings are made twenty miles from York by skilled foundrymen, using the lost wax process: a wax pattern, a ceramic shell, then molten metal. We keep the supply chain short and local, so we know the hands behind every piece.
